DOES A UKRAINIAN SCHOOL HAVE THE RIGHT NOT TO COUNT A YEAR OF STUDY ABROAD? OR EXPEL A STUDENT DUE TO HIS OR HER ABSENCE FROM UKRAINE?

Ukrainian children of school age who have studied abroad will be able to continue their education in local schools upon their return to Ukraine.

No student, regardless of where he or she is, whether he or she is able to keep in touch with his or her school or not, will be expelled from the Ukrainian education system. Expulsion is possible only if parents apply to the school with a corresponding application.

Firstly, it is important to note that all children will be able to continue their education after returning to Ukraine. They will also have the right to be enrolled in a Ukrainian educational institution and transferred to the next school year.

Secondly, to simplify the process, parents should take care to obtain from the educational institution abroad an information certificate on the period of study indicating the list of subjects and individual topics, as well as the results of the assessment that can be taken into account in the final (semester or annual) assessment by the Ukrainian educational institution. This will be the basis for transferring the student to the next year of study.

Accelerated Synchronization of Ukraine's Educational System with the EU.

  • In general, all the changes that are taking place now and will take place soon will enable the EU to recognize the knowledge, skills, grades, and educational documents acquired in Ukraine.
  •
  • Now in the EU, children are required to study for 12 years. In Ukraine, the transition to 12 years of education will take place by 2027.
  •
  • In addition, Ukraine is to introduce compulsory pre-school education, which is common in the EU.
  •
  • It should be added that although high school is not compulsory in the EU, 95% of students in Europe still continue their education there, choosing an academic (scientific) or professional (applied) direction.
  •
  • Starting in 2027, Ukraine will also reform high school, meaning that after grade 9, students will be able to choose a profile – physics, mathematics, or philology, etc.
